Fault Lines Links – Chicago Cop Gave Conflicting Accounts of Quintonio LeGrier’s Death
Mar. 21, 2016 (Mimesis Law) — Welcome to Monday, here’s what you need to know this morning:
- It emerged that Chicago Officer Robert Rialmo, who shot dead Quintonio LeGrier and Bettie Jones on New Year’s Eve, gave two differing accounts of what happened the night of the shootings. He initially claimed that LeGrier refused to drop a bat he was holding and a few days later claimed the teen tried to hit him with it, leading him to shoot.
- Teenager Edgar Rodriguez revealed that he and Jose Raul Cruz were stealing seats out of a car when Officer Ken Johnson came upon them and shot them, wounding Rodriguez and killing Cruz. Rodriguez claims that Johnson did not say anything before shooting.
- A Cook County judge is set to rule whether a special prosecutor should be assigned in the trial of Chicago Officer Jason Van Dyke charged in the death of Laquan McDonald in October 2014.
- India Beaty was shot and killed by Virginia officers on Saturday after she threatened them with what turned out to be a replica gun.
