Fault Lines Links – No Criminal Charges In Ramarley Graham Death For White NYPD Cop
Mar. 9, 2016 (Mimesis Law) — Hi folks – your news this morning:
- The US Attorney’s office announced on Tuesday that no criminal charges would be brought against white NYPD Officer Richard Haste who shot and killed unarmed black teenager Ramarley Graham in 2012. Graham was shot in the bathroom of his home by Haste during a drug investigation. His family settled a lawsuit against the city for $3.9 million last year.
- The fatal shooting of LaVoy Finicum, one of the Oregon occupiers, was deemed justified. However, the FBI agents involved in the shooting are being investigated for misconduct as one agent allegedly lied about how many times he shot Finicum and then tried to cover it up. Finicum was killed during a standoff in Oregon in January. Authorities contend that Finicum was reaching for a weapon leading them to shoot; Finicum’s family claim officers opened fire before he left his truck.
- Seven of former Oklahoma City Officer Daniel Holtzclaw’s accusers have filed a lawsuit against the city and the police department claiming complaints of sexual abuse were covered up. Holtzclaw was sentenced earlier this year to 263 years in prison for the assault and rape of 13 black women while on duty.
- Maryland’s highest court ruled on Tuesday that Baltimore Officer William Porter can be compelled to testify against fellow officers in connection with their trials for the in-custody death of Freddie Gray last year.
