Fault Lines Links – NY Cop On Trial For Stomping On Jahmiel Cuffee’s Head

Apr. 27, 2016 (Mimesis Law) — Morning folks, here’s what you need to know:

  • NYPD Officer Joel Edouard is on trial for the violent arrest of Jahmiel Cuffee in 2014. A video shows Edouard becoming frustrated during the arrest, pulling his gun on Cuffee and stomping on his head. A verdict is expected on Friday.
  • Madison, AL, police chief Larry Muncey announced he will appeal his misdemeanor contempt conviction in connection with the February 2015 aggressive takedown of Sureshbhai Patel in February 2015. Officer Eric Parker aggressively took out 57 year old Patel, who was going for his morning walk at the time, partly paralyzing him. Parker is set to stand trial in June charged with one count of third degree assault
  • The City of Tallahassee, FL, is set to vote on whether to approve a $325,000 settlement in an excessive force lawsuit brought by the family of Duane Strong. Strong was shot after he allegedly drove towards a police officer causing him to fear for his life.
  • John Daniel Flanagan who was shot in the face and leg by Florida cops in 2013 when he allegedly fled a DUI checkpoint, will stand trial on Wednesday on charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and drug possession. Police say Flanagan pinned one of the officers with his car injuring him and leading his colleague to shoot. Flanagan’s lawyer maintains that the police use excessive force.
