Fault Lines Links – VA Officer Fatally Shoots Teen Armed With A BB Gun
Mar. 2, 2016 (Mimesis Law) — Hi people, the links this morning:
- Two Virginia Officers are on leave after the fatal shooting of 18-year old Kionte DeShaun Spencer. Spencer was shot after failing to obey orders to drop a BB gun he was holding. It later emerged that he was wearing headphones preventing him from hearing the commands. The NAACP have likened the incident to the police shooting of 12-year old Tamir Rice.
- The wrongful death suit brought by the family of Alex Nieto against San Francisco PD began on Tuesday. Officers shot Nieto, a security guard at a nightclub, 15 times after they mistook his taser for a gun nearly two years ago.
- A federal judge has dismissed the City of Houston’s efforts to end a federal civil rights lawsuit filed on behalf of Kenny Releford. Unarmed mentally ill Releford, was shot and killed by a Houston Officer Jason Rosemon in front of his neighbors in October 2012 when he suffered a psychotic episode and struggled with his family members before calming down. Houston PD cleared Rosemon in the incident.
