How The EU Can Help Member States Integrate Migrants

Apr. 21, 2016 (Mimesis Labs) —  Demetrios Papademetriou, President of the Migration Policy Institute Europe, talks about some of the things European Union member states need to do in order to meet the logistical, cultural and political challenges of incorporating the massive influx of migrants displaced by unrest in the Middle East and North Africa. Asked whether this situation can present an opportunity to grow the economies of Europe, Papademetriou thinks some very positive contributions can be made. “There are some countries that are better poised to take advantage of this situation than other countries,” he says. Papademetriou also points to work that needs to be done in Brussels to make sure member states have the leadership, commitment and capital to meet the challenges posed. His comments were made prior to the 2016 Austrian Investor and Business Conference at the Lotte New York Palace in New York City.
